Mobile operators not ready for enterprise mobility

Mobile operators are not able to support the mobility strategies of multinational enterprises, new research from Ovum shows.

According to the research firm, these enterprises are looking to outsource their mobility operations to simplify several problematic points, including overall management, security and billing.

“Earlier this year, we found that managed mobility is the main focus of new sourcing plans within multinationals,” a statement from Ovum said.

But the supply of such services has not yet met the demand.

“The gap between these multinationals’ priorities and their current mobile service provider’s capability remains significant,” Ovum said.

The firm found that although mobile operators are well placed to win these managed service contracts, these multinationals are as likely to turn to a systems integrator as they are to turn to a mobile operator — suggesting the operators' offerings are currently lacking.
